My friends and I go to Mike's a lot. We love the green tea, the ambiance, and have always had good sushi and soup. However the staff sometimes makes us feel like we are inconveniencing them with separate checks or staying until close. We like the food, but definitely have never felt like "family" like a lot of other people say. I'm a server and I leave great tips -- however I feel that even though we've repeatedly patronized this restaurant and I've left an above average tip, I haven't felt welcomed at all. Despite this, the food is really good.

Based on Yelp reviews, some people LOVE this place, others don't care for it so much, and I'm part of the latter. To be fair, we didn't order anything fancy, just 3 pretty ordinary rolls: CONCH ROLL, SPICY SALMON ROLL and TAMPA ROLL. They tasted just fine, but nothing to write home about. My bf and I were there on a Sunday night but almost all the tables were full. 2 servers present and they were running around quite a bit, so service to us as a bit lacking. After we finished eating we did have to wait for a bit before either one checked on us. We also ordered the Calamari appetizer and it was pretty good, except I wish they offer the tempura dipping sauce like at other restaurants. The sushi menu is smaller than a lot of sushi restaurants I've eaten at. The space is quaint and the booths with curtains are semi intimate. There's a lot of variety of sake. But, honestly, I wasn't impressed. There are so many good sushi restaurants in the area to choose from, I probably won't be back.

It's simple. The sashimi is the best around...and I fish for a living! For those with the negative reviews: why is it I see so many Japanese customers here? Great food and atmosphere. I should keep quiet so I don't have to wait for a table when I go, but I want this place to stay right where it is! There is obvious pride in the sushi. After all it's a sushi and sake bar. Looking forward to every time I can go! The experience is a personal one as opposed to other places where you are treated like cattle: in and out

Had a great meal. The sashimi dinner was excellent. The fish was firm, fresh, and tasty, and the presentation was beautiful. I will be back.

First time there. Fast and courteous service. Sushi rolls good size. Met Mike. Although long drive from Largo, It was worth it. Liked the splash of wasabi underneath my Salmon sashimi Veggie roll crunchy and it held together well. Rainbow roll delicious with thin sliced avocado. Mexican roll not only nice to look at but very good. Enjoyed the seaweed salad in the champagne glass-just the right amount and a first time it was served that way. Unique. Presentation of our entire meal was nicely put together and appealing to the eye. I also enjoyed the feel of the restaurant. It was clean and the staff were all very nice

This is a great little spot. When we first went into the restaurant I saw how clean the floors were which surprised me and made me think how dirty the floors in other places must be for me to be impressed by that. The lighting is great and they have booths that are semi private that create a really nice atmosphere. The service we received was great. We had lots of questions and the waitresses were very helpful in describing dishes. Also if you do not see a sushi roll on the menu that interests you, you can choose to make your own. I had the Yaki udon which was good. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted some Yaki soba but this did the trick. My wife had two vegetarian rolls and they were great. We also had some rolls an appetizer Overall the experience here was very good. This is a more traditional sushi restaurant, it isn't the trendy places you find down town. I would highly recommend trying mikes sushi.

I only get sushi once in a while, but it sure is a treat when I get it. Mike's did not let me down. We were given complimentary cold green beans in a really yummy sesame oil marinade. That doesn't sound nearly as good as it tasted! We had the eel and tuna nagiri (2 pieces each), a tuna roll, and the tempura roll. The tempura roll was the star of the show, with a lightly fried tempura batter, drizzled with 2 kinds of sauce. So good! The sushi chefs were quick, friendly, and personable and we had excellent service. I'll definitely be back!

This is our familys favorite sushi place in Clearwater.Coming from LA its been hard to find a good sushi place and after 21/2 years here I think this ones it. Try anything really Im sure you"ll like it.
(4)Inspector Y.
The rolls are very tasty if the sauce (eel sauce) was less abundant. The place is a typical sushi restaurant in the area. It's decently clean. Price was reasonable. Will try to drop by again to try to give them another star, but you gotta earn it.
(3)Peter U.
The freshest, tastiest sushi in town! Run by actual Japanese sushi chefs too!

My wife and I eat here once a week. Usually on Sunday's. I have to admit that it is my guilty pleasure to eat here. The food is AWESOME and the staff are wonderful. I have seen the other reviews and I think those customers just do not understand the Japanese way or culture. My experience has only gotten better every time I eat at Mike's. I asked Mike to make me a Futomaki which is a giant roll and not on the menu. The first time he made it for me he added a little too much nori (seaweed). So I just took it out and then ate the roll. Still very good. Mike took notice and then next time I asked for it, he changed the roll without saying anything. He watches over his customers with great care and I really enjoy that level of service. I also like to eat the ginger because I like the taste and it helps with the digestion of the raw food that you are eating. I would ask my server for more and they always get it for me without any hesitation. Again, Mike took notice and the last time I was there, he made up extra ginger and sent it to my table. Service is awesome and don't be put off by the other reviews, you just have to understand the culture in which you are now partaking in. Mikes is very authentic. The food is amazing. The only other place I found the sushi to be this good is in New York and locally a place called Jo-To's. I recently went back to Jo-to's and I can say they are not anywhere near as good as Mikes is now. The service at Jo-tos was terrible and the food lacked the quality it once had. I also found out recently that Mike used to be the general manager of Jo-to's before he opened his own place. This made all the sense in the world to me, because Mike's is much more superior quality. I have eaten sushi for more than 30 years and I was taught by a wonderful Japanese couple in New York how to eat and understand what and why I am eating. Mike's food is of the highest quality and the servings he gives you are very generous. You will not find another place as good as what he will give you. I spend on average $120.00 to $150.00 including tip for a meal at Mike's for me and my wife. I eat there weekly and plan on eating at Mike's for many years to come. You will enjoy the food and don't hesitate to ask the staff for anything, they are very accommodating to you. Mike is a master sushi chef, and a fun guy to talk to. Go and enjoy the food he offers, it will not disappoint.

I hate that they are not open on Mondays! This caused me to go to a different place in east lake woodlands area and it was awful!!! Not gonna waste my time talking about them because they don't deserve the yelp... On the flip side, mikes is the best sushi in the tri county! As I mentioned, closed on Mondays is not convenient for your guests. All this does is make your guests' divert to a new place... Eventually they will find something comparable or better. Maybe I'm just bitter because I run s restaurant and don't have the luxury of being closed one out of seven days...

My sister and her fiance are regulars at this sushi restaurant and they gave Mike's huge praise. When her fiance and I visited, I decided to give the raw fish a try which I normally avoid on a first visit to a sushi restaurant. Although the California Roll was pretty good, I have to say that my Rainbow Roll was very disappointing, the fish was far from fresh and the nigiri I had was also not up to par. My favorite fish, salmon, was a complete disappointment. The part that made the visit though was their excellent miso soup, I have not tasted such an exquisite miso soup since my trip to Tokyo in 2011. Some people just shrug when it comes to miso soup, but I honestly believe there is a difference between good and bad miso soup and this soup was fantastic. Now if only the fish would have been better, I could rate Mike's Sushi much higher. Maybe next time?
(3)Darin C.
The ONLY place I go for sushi anymore.... and have introduced several people to Mike's who are loyal customers as well... you will not find better quality of ingredients anywhere.. The Cherry Blossom and Marinated Sea Bass are my favorites!
(5)Moriah B.
My favorite restaurant...period. My husband and I eat at Mike's once a week. Don't let the size or the fact it's in a strip mall fool you. It's hands down the best sushi in the area. The food is fresh, the restaurant is clean, the service is excellent. Mike takes pride in his work and it shows! He takes the time to learn what you like and what you don't and he remembers those little details when you come in the next time. We will never eat at any other sushi restaurant after finding Mikes and neither should you!
(5)Jayne S.
The sushi here s pretty good. When I ask the chef if he would make a special roll that I had in another restaurant that I just loved Made with cucumber and salmon with a sweet sauce. He barked No! The poor wait staff was so embarrassed. I was just shocked. I was getting a lot of take out orders and would have been a steady customer. But I am not going there with that attitude! I will spend my money where the customer is appreciated.
(2)Laura W.
Our favorite local place... We eat here once a week; great atmosphere! Love the freshness, friendly and fast service, and most of all Mike! Who makes us feel like family. Try the fiesta, or crazy roll. Or- I love to create my own roll every time:) We eat sushi when we travel- and this is the bar to measure all sushi against;)

Finally!!! My wife and I have been searching for a traditional Japanese restaurant since we moved to the area from Hawaii nearly four years ago. We have found a (very) few decent places and many disappointments. Basically, we had just about given up and thought we would have to settle for sub-par until we can get back to Japan (or Hawaii). Then, one night after we visited the Palm Harbor Library for the first time, we decided we were near starving for sushi and/or Japanese food, but were unfamiliar with the area. According to our dumbphone, there were a few sushi places around, but the only one close was Mike's Sushi and Sake Bar. Initially put off by the name ("Mike's"? Sounds more like a sports bar...), we decided it couldn't be worse than some of the other places we've been. Man, am I glad we decided to give it a go!! The first thing I noticed when we walked in is that the owner and staff were all Japanese. This is a seemingly simple issue, but we've only found one other sushi place that is staffed/owned by Japanese and it is our other favorite place (Sushi Kabuki in Largo). A very pleasant lady seated us and brought out some seasoned bean sprouts which were simply delicious. We ordered the grilled squid for appetizer, my wife got the mixed Tempura and I tried the Chicken Teriyaki. I also requested a special order sushi because I saw they had a "Make Your Own Sushi" option. *Side note: my favorite sushi has always been Salmon Mayo which is basically rice topped with raw salmon topped with Cupie Mayo (Japanese squeeze bottle mayo) topped by thinly sliced onion. I would always get this when I lived in Japan and they would often make it with so much onion you couldn't see the sushi. It is important to pour the soy sauce over top of it (instead of dipping it) to pacify the onion flavor. If I'm in a decent sushi place, I will ask them to make it for me. The only sushi place outside of Japan that offered it on the menu is Kuru Kuru Sushi in Honolulu (my favorite there). Most places that I order it do a decent job, but always seem to skimp on the onion... Anyway, we were brought out salad and both Miso and a clear chicken broth soup. The Miso was actual Miso and very tasty. The chicken broth had crispy little bits of tempura and leek and stuff and was also quite delicious. When they brought out the Grilled Squid, I was nearly overcome by memories of my time in Japan, attending Bon O'Dori and other street festivals where Grilled Squid, Grilled Corn-On-The-Cob, Yakisoba and Yakitori lent such an indelible taste memory to each event. This one dish was so well done, I would have been happy even if the rest of the meal didn't hold up. Tender, so as to melt in your mouth (which is quite difficult to do with notoriously chewy squid), deliciously flavored and simply but elegantly presented. Loved it! The only possible issue I could come up with was the price...at $8, I felt it was a little much, but will not hesitate to order it again! It is more than worth it!! When my Chicken Teriyaki came out, our waitress took care to place it far away from our child in his highchair, as the dish was sizzling hot. Again, like the Grilled Squid, this is a simple dish which is quite often failed by simple mistakes. In the case of Teriyaki dishes, it is watery or tasteless sauce and meats cooked separately then simply topped with the sauce. This was neither. Thick and rich, the flavor was perfect and much missed and the chicken was grilled and apparently basted while cooking. My wife's Tempura came out and, by her smile and satisfied "Oooh" after the first bite, I knew right away that it, too, was right on. My special sushi order of Salmon Mayo was good but, as with just about every other sushi restaurant I have visited in America, the onion consisted of just a few slices sprinkled on top. A little disappointing, but not outside of my expectations. Perhaps the only downside of the meal was the dessert. We ordered the Mochi Ice Cream which came in a glass with three different flavors (we got Mango, Green Tea and Strawberry). While tasty, they were still solidly frozen and a little difficult to eat. Plus, they were simply the same ones you can find in the freezer section of just about any oriental market around. After such a deliciously authentic meal, it kind of let us down a bit. Overall, we were very pleased with both the meal and the experience. The food was authentic and simply delicious, the décor was simple and appropriate, and the service was prompt and courteous. As was mentioned in another review, I noticed Mike keeping an eye on us and all of his customers, which I find very reassuring. In addition, the ladies all went out of their way to fuss over our baby and took the time to talk with us and make us feel welcome. We are so happy that we have finally found an authentic Japanese restaurant close by which we can visit whenever we need to quell those frequent cravings for good, authentic Japanese fare.
(5)Conner S.
The 4.5 star rating was a little inflated for this spot. Although the sushi was surprisingly good, there weren't a ton of roll options that didn't involve Cali rolls or some sort of cooked fish. They also glared at us until we left last night. We were the last customers in the restaurant, but seriously?!? I hate that.

Mike's is the cutest, most welcoming, and best restaurant I've found so far in the area. A very simple, casual dining room with old school sushi chefs cracking jokes and passing food over is exactly what I look for in a spot like this... and they deliver perfectly. It's clear that this place is either family run, or family-like. Sit at the sushi bar, order a few things, and then ask them to just make you whatever. Tonight I tried 5 different sushi rolls, Gyoza, and Yellowtail Cheeks. The sushi we ordered was incredible. Very fresh, balanced flavors, great temperature, and a few unique items like tempura Yam, a personal favorite I make at home all the time. The Yellowtail was very fresh and sweeter than anywhere else I've had it. It was the perfect dish to introduce to my date who clearly would never have ordered such a thing, but she loved it. As for the Gyoza, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. It's probably the only part of the night I would skip. I'll be returning to Mike's many many times in the near future. I can't wait to try everything else he has to offer, especially more Yellowtail Cheeks. 5 Rounds of Sushi, Gyoza, Cheeks, Green Tea, and a soda all for $57. Can't beat that.
(5)Jeffrey K.
I really do enjoy great sushi and Mike has some of the best ever. He was the previous owner of Sushi Ren on Tampa Road. After a brief retirement he could not take the endless golf games and started up another great place. Nice and clean location. Not a huge place but that makes the place more personal. I have been going to Mike's and his previous place for years and truly enjoy every visit. He has a great selection of Sake and his food is always fresh, a real important fact for any sushi restaurant. The fact that Mike has a huge following of regular customers is a sign of success.
(5)Cynthia F.
Nicer decor than many sushi bars; interesting hanging screens used as room dividers between booths to create a romantic atmosphere. We were fortunate to go at an off-hour and get a booth. I enjoyed the seaweed salad and the melt-in-your-mouth, very fresh salmon sushi. I also loved the tasty dessert Mandarin crepes but was disappointed that it was served with chocolate syrup. I wish restaurants would realize that not everyone likes chocolate, and that, when someone orders a non-chocolate dessert, it' could be because they DON"T like chocolate. The photos of all the desserts are hanging overhead; look at them before ordering!!
(5)Brady S.
In my opinion this place is one of the best, if not the best, sushi places in Palm harbor. They have never let my sushi loving family down.
(5)Elizabeth C.
I lived in Japan for two years. Walking into Mike's was like being back in Tokyo. It has such an authentic feel. The choices are a mix of traditional Japanese and more Westernized options. The green tea is excellent, so is the mochi ice cream available in green tea and goma flavors. I love tamago and this is the only thing at Mike's that is not exactly the same as my favorite sushi place in Japan. It's so nice to find a sushi restaurant in Florida with authentic Japanese chefs. Oishii desu!
(4)Cecilia A.
Having just moved to Florida from San Diego (CA) I must admit I was skeptical that i would find a sushi spot that would "live up to my standards" lol BUT I have to say that Im definitely impressed by the quality of the fresh fish/food at Mikes. I'm not a big fan of the over done, "saucy", everything but the kitchen sink rolls that are so popular in California so for me to find a clean, fresh cut of fish thats good just by itself without all the extras lets me know Im in the right place. don't get me wrong, the foo foo stuff is on the menu for those who are into that type of thing but the food here is authentic and delicious. I like that "Mike" is actually from Japan which is a rare find these days but I feel like it makes a huge deference in the quality considering the place is serving Japanese food lol. I love nigiri sushi, from octopus, surf clam, salmon roe, tune, eel, whitefish you name it, its its fresh and delicious Ill eat it. If you have someone in your party who doesn't do sushi their hot dishes are good too. Ive only had appetizers and the Nabeyaki but I have to say the Nabeyaki (udon with an egg and tempura) was absolutely out of this world good! So much so that i ate it 3 days in a row this week. Certainly stoked my roommate discovered this place. Try it and see what you think
(3)Calley P.
Best Sushi in town! I love the dragon roll. Customer service is great and it's always packed.
(5)Beatriz T.
Coming from the SF bay area, nothing in Florida has compared to sushi quality as we had experienced it. Nada. Not even close. That said, this will be passable for a fix, IF one sits at the sushi bar and avoids the waitstaff. Completely incompetent. We were a party of 6, 2 kids under 5 who both enjoy sushi. We began ordering several rolls and sashimi and a couple of appetizers, and were met with confusion. Alright, the server then decides that it would be easier if we just write down on the menu our selections. We try, and find maybe 7 options under sushi. Meanwhile, upon our entering the restaurant I had noticed and asked if they had some of our favorites, like aji or amberjack, kohada, saba, buri,....So I ask the waitstaff, what kind of whitefish do you have, since there is only one mark for Whitefish. He literally says, he doesn't get all technical with learning the japanese words, it's just white fish. wtf? So I explain to him in his terms so maybe he'll get it, that chicken and pork are both white meats, right, but I want to know what i'm getting. What a schmuck. Stick to dealing with the sushi chef alone. The other guys know nothing and don't care to know either.
(3)Sharon G.
Great, fresh, authentic sushi and Japanese dishes at Mike's. Friendly servers who know the menu and can explain the differences between the various sakes. A real gem in Palm Harbor!
(4)Ken C.
I am from Los Angeles and am half Japanese, and have been to plenty of Sushi restaurants. Mikes is authentic, down to the dirty hanging valences on the way to the bathroom. It reminds me of those hole in the wall places in downtown LA, one of the largest Japanese communities in all the country. Order anything and it rocks!!!!!
(5)Lance C.
Okay, went back for dine in and ordered omokase (putting my self in the chef's hands). WOW, didn't have a single grain of rice. Mike presented an incredible variety of authentic Japanese delicacies: tuna tartare with spicy sauce over onions and cucumbers with macadamia nuts, Sake steamed snails with lightly steamed greens, Japanese pickle, sliced thin with spicy garlic sauce, traditional marinated mackerel in miso broth, fresh uni and finished up with steamed salmon belly. I didn't add a drop of soy sauce to anything, Mike had everything seasoned perfectly. It was all amazing. I ended the night sharing some saki with Mike that he recommended... A fantastic finish to a great dinner! Can't wait to return
(5)Ryan M.
Mike's Sushi is owner operated. Simply put, excellent Sushi.
(5)Jeffrey K.
We spend January wintering in this area and have a lot of favorite restaurants, many of them of the fish-seafood-beach-shack-cold beer genre. Our big city sushi jones, though, has been largely unmet until we stopped joking that Mike's Sushi sounds like Hiroshi's Pizza or New Hampshire BBQ and checked it out. It is, after all, directly across U.S. 19 from the Starbucks to which we bike (sometimes) from our rented digs in Crystal Beach. Well, Mike, or whatever your real name is, you're it--- you're the sushi king of Pinellas County and doubtless Hillsborough, too. We suspected as much when we entered and the biggest thing in the room was the sushi bar and not tables or a lounge or a loud TV or anything that distracts from the serious business of serving creative raw fish. The sushi is good... maybe it's nothing better than you get at every shopping plaza in Northern Virginia and Gaithersburg and Rockville and Baltimore.. but it sure ranks as major league in these parts.
(4)Lynn C.
Marginal at best. Sushi & fishy shouldn't be in the same sentence and yet that's the best I can say. This was not an isolated review... We live nearby so gave it our 3x rule before writing review. DO NOT RECOMMEND. It's a total pass on Mike's...
(1)Ming Z.
Mike's Sushi, what an American name for a Japanese sushi restaurant. Without reading my yelper fellows' reviews, for sure I would have passed it by. Bias, am I! You really can't judge a book by its cover. Turn out, just like other yelper fellows say, Mike is anything but American. Chef Mike picks his supplies, make his own sushi rice and use almost none process food. Everything is made from scratch in traditional Japanese recipe. That is one heck of good chef I am talking about. Especially for Japanese sashimi dishes, you need someone who knows fish well to prepare such delicacy. After 6 orders of raw fish cuts, it is so obvious that we have given our trust to Chef Mike. Whatever he makes we will eat. No question ask. How nice to be with professionals. Sweet! If you are Sushi fan, make sure ask Chef what is the special of the day. He constantly make new dishes according what he gets everyday. Our next table order fresh oyster as large as my fist. Chef Mike made a special vinegar sauce instead cocktail sauce. Fantastic looking dish. We will definitely go back. The bill was 76 dollar including 6 order of raw fish cuts, 2 order of sushi roll (small bite size), one appetizer, one soup, 5 import beer. Because it is our first time visit, chef Mike made a special salmon appetizer for us. Sweet!
(5)Christopher S.
Walked in for a special dinner and was greeted by a warm staff (including Mike). Sat down to a great atmosphere (a lil chilly but most locals do get chilled in a/c. :) ) and a nicely decorated room with divided booths. There was also the tradition sushi bar for choice. Met Joe, who recommended a great starter saki (Jun Tenzan) as he placed some marinated bean sprouts as a teaser in front of us! Ordered the seaweed salad to boost it up a bit and it was very good. When it came to sushi, we decided to choose a "normal" roll, the Scorpion, with Crawfish and Cucumber, then the Crazy Roll with spicy tuna, avocado, panco, and smelt, and Mike's Special Volcano (Krab & Shrimp w/ Hot Sauce over rice) which was just sick good! Ended with the fried ice cream made with a twist of pound cake as a change up. Joe already told me about a saki he would recommend next time. Joe is son-in-law to Mike in the pic of the three wise men below!) I shared a couple of saki shots with him as I liked his style. Bottom line? Great experience. I told my friends about Mike's this morning and it was no shocker to them like where had I been. It definitely rocks and i will return!
(4)Elizabeth K.
pretty good but what a dumb name right?
(3)Hazel T.
Great service, reasonable prices and fresh, delicious sushi. Can't wait to go back - as good as the hype.
(4)Randi B.
I've been here multiple times and while the food is really great there is always a peculiar attitude about the staff as though us being there is an inconvenience to them. You just don't get a warm feeling about it which is really disappointing because the food is great.
(3)Michael B.
Not alot to say in regards to a good review. Service was slow but the food was okay been to alot better places around. The environment was good but that to the only positive in the whole place. Don't waste your time here.
(2)Gianna A.
Delicious!!! Staff was very friendly and the sushi was amazing. Happy to have found a place close to my home!
(5)Christopher M.
I just really, really love sushi. The rolls are colorful and look like works of art. It's also taste great, the only thing that set it apart from many other sushi places is the Yellowtail Cheek. Cheek, is usually a mystery if you are actually getting cheek or just a "cheek-shaped" nugget from the filet. You can see just by the presentation you are in all actuality getting cheek. We were the only one in the restaurant and it seems to me that they way to go is to get your order to-go. During our diner 3 to-go orders were served. I would definetly have them again, but I would go the to-go route.
(4)Sofia D.
Loved Mikes sushi! Server for one had a great personality and was fun. My sister and I went for happy hour so all the rolls were $5! All very tasty, and despite it being so busy (line at the door) they had it under control. Sushi came out in a timely manner. Every customer who came in had smiles on their faces, greeted and were greeted by other customers and staff. Everyone knew everyone, a very popular place amongst the locals. Wow, who knew?! I seen this place while going to Carrabas, and heard about Mikes sushi, but didn't know this was the spot. Sign outside in the plaza just reads Sushi(no Mikes anywhere lit up visibly ) FYI. I'll definitely have this spot on sushi rotation. Mikes and Hot Tuna, best places for sushi in the local area so far.
(4)Stacy Z.
Mike's seriously has the best sushi! The fish he uses is never mushy! I've got to be careful not to eat to much, Or else it'll go right to my tushy! Don't let the name Mike fool you, This man knows what he's doing! You could risk it by eating elsewhere But that could lead to you spewing! The quality of the fish used is outstanding! That's what his customers are demanding. Better come early to get a table Or else you might find yourself standing. There is a nice selection of raw or fried rolls. For your soy sauce are these cute lil bowls. When it comes to eating at Mike's sushi I feel like I've got no self control!! Mike and his staff are amazing! So, here on Yelp I am praising! And I hope all those who read this Get a kick out of my phrasing!! :)
(5)Keith G.
Great sushi! You really need to go to Mike's if you are a sushi lover. Service excellent also!
(5)Bridget B.
Excellent sushi, excellent value. Highly recommended. Try the green dragon roll. Consistently outstanding.
(5)Angela C.
Don't let the name fool you this is a great place for sushi! Check out Mikes picture on his restaurant page and you will be assured that you are not dealing with one of those places with white boys behind the sushi bar. This is the fourth sushi restaurant we have visited in the Tampa area and my sushi loving husband has declared the search is over we have found the best! He sampled the sweet shrimp which is the first time we have ever seen shrimp served raw and he declared he loved it that way it was delicious. He also particularly enjoyed the fried shrimp heads that accompanied that order. The tuna was first class in freshness and taste and obviously cut by a master. We both agreed that the decor was pleasant and elegant rather than obnoxious and loud as in some places. I don't eat raw fish but I had the Blue Moon roll and the Vegas roll which were both hot and yummy, be aware though that these two are in fact deep fried rolls wrapped in rice paper so if your expecting a cold roll with crunchies on top they have that but these are not that kind. He also had a soft shell crab roll which was cooked fresh to order and delicious. The sake selection was the largest we have ever seen. He ordered the one in the little blue square bottle and enjoyed it very much he said it was very smooth. He has informed me that the next time it's sushi night we will look no further than Mike's. He said even if he had to drive all the way from Brandon this was the only sushi place he wants to eat at in Tampa. They also have an option to create your own roll which appeals to me since I don't eat raw fish and I think I may try that the next time we visit.
(5)Sam I.
Greatest sushi I have ever tasted, no exceptions. The tempura roll is to die for.

Went there with 2 of my little kids. The waiter misunderstood the order and got for us a huge boat with some spicy rolls we didn't order. I sent those back and Mike got so mad, he even "forgot" to make sushi we ordered. Ok, we are disappointed. The service is usually friendly but very slow.

Great sushi! We are regulars and everything is consistently fresh and delicious. Best sushi in the area by a long shot.

I was here once with a friend of the owner (Mike), and everything was ordered without seeing the menu, so it was super, but very expensive. And I was here another time about a year or two ago, and as I recall very good and reasonable, but that was a while back and memory unreliable. Would be interested in any other Yelpers' opinions. Mike formerly owned Sushi Ren on Tampa Road by Lake St. George Road and there still are some reviews in Yelp on that one. Kaiko in Northwood Plaza on Enterprise Road is excellent for sushi, as is new place in strip center in front of the Lowe's at Racetrack Road and Hillsborough Ave. That place has individual booths with sliding doors, so tables can be completely private.

I went last Saturday night after hearing from friends rave about the freshness of the food here. It was early and only a couple of tables were filled, but while we were there, they were doing a brisk takeout business. I had the teriyaki salmon with vegetables and it was delicious, the salmon with a nice crisp crust and tender inside. The vegetables, a julienne mix of eggplant, carrots, peppers, and others were coked just right. It comes with a side of white rice. My husband had the Tempura Shrimp. It came with an ample serving of shrimp and several tempura vegetables, such as eggplant, sweet potato, squash and green pepper. It came with a side of rice as well. The tempura batter was light, and the shrimp and vegetables were top notch. A choice of soup accompanied the entrees, either hot and sour or clear. We had the clear soup , which was an excellent home made chicken broth with scallions and mushrooms. The room is elegantly simple and the tables are separated by a bamboo screen and drawn back curtains, so it makes for an intimate setting. Our waiter was extremely attentive and friendly. We will back soon to try the sushi. An excellent spot in Palm Harbor!
